Large or complex PDFs may take a little while to analyze.

Because the internet should be for everyone

poofPDF checks your document against common WCAG 2.0 and PDF/UA accessibility criteria — missing alt text, heading structure, tagged tables, color contrast, and more — then helps you export a corrected version. We target WCAG 2.x because it's the current, finalized W3C standard underpinning most accessibility laws and regulations today; WCAG 3.0 is still an early-stage W3C Working Draft that won't replace or deprecate WCAG 2 for at least several years, so it isn't something most site operators need to worry about yet. Checks are automated and heuristic, so always spot-check anything flagged for manual review. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for details.

Good for SEO / GEO

Clear headings, searchable text, descriptive links, and image alt text help search engines understand and index your PDFs, making them easier to discover. Have older brand decks, articles, or marketing collateral that could add to your share of voice? Converting image-only or poorly structured PDFs into searchable, machine-readable documents gives that content a better chance of being understood and indexed.

How we approach your PDF

Standard PDFs
We analyze the document's existing text, images, reading order, and tags, then apply reliable corrections directly in your browser.
Mingled Content
When real text and flattened visual content share a page, we preserve what is usable and rebuild what is not. AI assistance is available for complex imagery or uncertain structure.
Fully Flattened Images
These PDFs are image-only pages with no usable text layer. Rather than stopping at plain OCR, our AI extracts every visible text fragment, our deterministic layout engine rebuilds headings, lists, tables, and reading order, and a second AI review checks the result against the original page.

About validator results: poofPDF is a best-efforts remediator, not a PDF/UA certification service. Some legacy, government, scientific, and highly interactive PDFs may still report technical failures after remediation. Remaining findings are most often tied to malformed or incomplete font-to-Unicode data, form-field labels and annotation tags, complex table structure, or ambiguous legacy/vector content that cannot be changed safely without risking the document's meaning or appearance.

Our goal is that the remediated document remains practical to read, navigate, and operate with assistive technology even when a validator does not reach zero. Always test important files with a keyboard and screen reader as well as an automated validator. For a demanding public example, compare the official IRS Form 1040 PDF before and after remediation with the veraPDF PDF/UA validator. If the actual experience is not accessible — including reading order, controls, tables, or announced content — please let us know.
